Language & Communication

Miss Green, our Early Years Teaching Assistant is currently working towards becoming our schools Language Lead.
Part of her role is to carry out speech assessments using the schools chosen programme, liaising with class teachers regarding speech referrals, introducing sign of the week and developing her knowledge further regarding speech and communication.

The information provided below gives a snapshot of what the children in our Early Years are learning with regards to language and communication. There is also some information you can use at home.

Listening games

Listening games are a great way to help your child tune into different sounds. For example, you can go on a listening walk. Ask your child what they can hear - Can you hear a vehicle engine, a bird or people talking?

Reading is also a fantastic listening game - read a story ask your child to listen out for a particular word, e.g. if you hear me say the owl I want to let me know.

Further information on listening games can be found here: Listening games

Makaton

Makaton is a great way to support your childs language and communication.
