Wellbeing and Pastoral Support

At James Peacock, we are dedicated to ensuring our children are the happiest and most supported versions of themselves that they can be whilst here in school.

We have a dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), Mrs Henson in school to support those children who may need extra support.

As an ELSA, Mrs Henson is a specialist teaching assistant with a wealth of experience of working with children.

ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by Educational Psychologists within our local education authority. The aim of an
ELSA is to build your child’s emotional development and help them cope with life’s challenges, whilst enabling them to reach their potential educationally. We help your child to find solutions to any problems they may have such as:
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Emotional literacy
  • Self esteem
  • Social skills
  • Friendship issues
  • Relationships
  • Managing strong feelings
  • Anxiety
  • Bullying
  • Conflict
  • Emotional regulation
  • Growth mindset
  • Social stories

Drawing & Talking

Picture
Drawing and talking is a safe and gentle therapeutic approach, which provides an effective way for children and young people (from age 5) to process the emotional pain or trauma they may be experiencing.

It is a child-centred one to one intervention focusing on supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people.

Drawing and Talking at James Peacock is conducted by Mrs Henson.
